Our student leaders had a special opportunity to learn from someone who has spent much of her life serving and leading in local communities when Graceview welcomed Minister Ros Bates to campus.
Primary and Secondary student leaders gathered together for a leadership session where Minister Bates shared stories from her own journey and practical wisdom about making a meaningful difference. Students had the opportunity to ask questions, hear firsthand about leadership in public life and share some of the projects and initiatives they are leading at Graceview.
“The opportunity to see Minister Bates at school was incredible. Being part of a small school, I got the chance to meet her and listen to her advice for school kids like us. It was something that I am honoured to experience and getting to share it with Student Representative Council leaders, Primary Leaders and Captains in high school.” - Alex, Year 11
One of the messages that resonated with our students was Minister Bates’ own experience of learning in small cohorts during her education and nursing training. She spoke about the value of being part of a community where people know one another well, something our students recognised immediately from their own experience at Graceview.
Leadership development is an important part of life at Graceview. We want students of all ages to have opportunities to develop leadership skills, contribute ideas and serve others well so that they graduate with real experience of using their strengths to make a difference.
We are grateful to Minister Bates for taking the time to invest in our young leaders, listen to their ideas and encourage them as they discover the contribution they can make in their school, their community and the world.
