What can running 5 kilometres do?
At Graceview, it brought students, families and staff together to raise funds to help protect children and women vulnerable to human trafficking.
Our annual Stop Trafficking 5K supports the work of Captivating International, with funds helping life-changing programs in Nepal and the Philippines. These programs help children return to school, educate and protect children from online exploitation, and equip women with skills and financial opportunities that reduce their vulnerability to trafficking.
“The Stop Trafficking 5K is a fundraiser to fight against human trafficking. I care about it because I believe that we can all give back where we can, where we're able. So I'm a student, but I'm running to fight against girls who are affected by an issue that is horrible. Put yourself in a position where you can understand the stories of those who have struggled so much in their lives and have no way out. If you just see that and remember that what you have now is like a dream for them, then it helps you to understand that I have to give what I can.” - Alex, Year 11
“The Stop Trafficking 5K was really fun. We ran lots of laps. It was very tiring, but it was still fun. And we did it to be kind and help children who aren't safe.” - Luca, Year 4
This year, our community has raised over $8,500, enough to fully fund one of Captivating’s life-changing projects. The funds support work including helping children return to school, protecting children from exploitation, and empowering women through microfinance and skills training.
