Swag camping under vast night skies, walking through Australia's iconic red centre and worshipping in the beauty of God's creation gave our Year 11 students an unforgettable journey of friendship, faith and discovery.
From the rugged beauty of the Flinders Ranges to a sunset at Coober Pedy, the towering cliffs of Kings Canyon and the awe-inspiring landscapes of Kata Tjuṯa and Uluru, students encountered the diversity and beauty of Australia's centre. Along the way, they learnt about Indigenous culture, Australian history and the deep connection the Anangu people have with Country.
"Due to the fact that we had a whole week, it felt like we could really relax and actually take in what God created for us. I really enjoyed Coober Pedy. There was a lookout and I got to enjoy the sunset there. I got to take it in and just stop to enjoy what God created for us. It was really amazing, especially the beautiful colours." - Jarryd
As students hiked, travelled and shared the adventure together, friendships deepened and new connections were formed.
"At school, it’s like you have your groups, but on camp you really flourish as a class and you feel more connection. We came together as a cohort. We laughed, we had worship with God… and we had a chance to really connect." - Jarryd
"As a teacher, there are moments that remind you exactly why camps are so important, and this trip was full of them. Watching our students connect as a cohort before their final year of secondary school was incredibly special. Friendships deepened, barriers came down, and conversations happened that simply don't occur within the walls of a classroom." - Miss Parkin, Deputy Principal - Secondary
Some of the most meaningful moments came at the end of each day. Gathered around a campfire beneath some of the clearest night skies in Australia, students worshipped together with an acoustic guitar under a sky filled with stars.
"What impacted me most was seeing our students fully engage in worship each night. Standing around a campfire in the middle of the Australian outback, hearing Year 11 students sing loudly and proudly in praise to the God of the universe was something truly special. Central Australia is vast, rugged and beautiful. It constantly reminds you of how small you are and how big God is." - Miss Parkin
As students prepare for their final year of secondary school, this journey provided opportunities to grow in resilience, independence and gratitude while creating memories that will stay with them for years to come.
"It’s hard to say what my favourite moment was because it was all of it. It was just so beautiful." - Jarryd
The red dirt may have washed off, but the friendships, faith experiences and sense of wonder gained along the way will remain a part of our Year 11 students and staff for life.
